A Hindu ceremony was held in the hometown of U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris' Indian maternal grandparents to pray for Harris' election.

A special prayer meeting was held at a Hindu temple in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, to pray for Vice President Harris' victory.

P. V. Gopalan, Vice President Harris' maternal grandfather, was born more than 100 years ago in the town of Tullasendrapuram, Tamil Nadu.

The town also drew global attention for wishing the Democratic Party a victory in the 2020 U.S. presidential election and celebrating with fireworks when Vice President Harris took office.

Born to an Indian mother and Jamaican father, Vice President Harris will become the first black and Asian president of the United States if she wins the presidential election.
