Russia's bombing of power facilities across the country, including western Ukraine, has caused tensions among NATO and NATO allies.

Ukraine's energy minister, Herman Galushchenko, said in a Telegram message on Thursday local time that a large-scale attack on the power system was taking place, according to Reuters.

Galushchenko added that he had taken preventive blackouts in response.

The AFP news agency reported that Poland rushed its fighter jets in response to Russia's attack.

Poland's operational command said in a post on X that "Poland and allied fighter jets have launched operations" in response to large-scale Russian attacks targeting western Ukraine and elsewhere.

The operation command added that the Russian airstrike mobilized cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones.

The operational level of NATO allies has yet to be told.

Poland is a NATO ally bordering western Ukraine, which has been sensitive when Russia strikes deep into Ukrainian territory off the front lines.
