After the U.S. allowed Ukraine to use long-range missiles to hit the Russian mainland, Russia issued a warning message again mentioning its nuclear doctrine revision policy.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russia's state-run Tas news agency on the 19th local time that "the revision of the nuclear doctrine has already been substantially formalized" and "will be formalized as needed."

Vladimir indicated that the revised doctrine would include "if a non-nuclear state attacks Russia with the support of a nuclear state, the sponsor is also considered an aggressor."

After the New York Times reported on the 17th that the U.S. had authorized Ukraine to use long-range weapons, Peskov reiterated Russia's policy to revise its nuclear doctrine.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mariya Zakharova warned in a statement the day before that the use of long-range weapons meant direct involvement in the conflict by Western countries and that "Russia's response would be appropriate and obvious."

Regarding relations with the U.S., Peskov said, "As Putin said, we are open to normalization," and that we are ready to improve our relationship, but stressed that we cannot dance tango alone and have no plans to do so.

He also said that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is also under U.S. sanctions and cannot lift sanctions on Rubio at this time, regarding Senator Mako Rubio's nomination as secretary of state by President-elect Donald Trump.
