Trump appoints National Security Adviser Wong as working-level official for first-term U.S.-North Korea summit

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Alex Wong, who was in charge of negotiating with North Korea during his first term, as the White House's chief national security adviser.

In a statement on the 22nd local time, Trump said, "Alex served as the deputy special representative for North Korea and deputy assistant secretary for East Asia at the State Department during my first term in office," adding that he will be appointed as the chief national security adviser.

"As North Korea's special representative, he helped negotiate my summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un," Trump said. Alex also led the State Department's effort to implement the free and open Indo-Pacific strategy," he said.

Alex Wong was in charge of negotiating with North Korea, accompanying then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo when he visited Pyongyang in July 2018 for follow-up negotiations after the June 2018 North Korea-US summit in Singapore.
