Landslides and floods in Sumatra, Indonesia, which has entered a full-fledged rainy season, have killed 16 people and left six missing.

Indonesian media reported that six people were killed when a huge amount of soil hit a hilly village in Karo, North Sumatra.

In the nearby Padang Rawas area, four family members were killed when landslides caused several houses to collapse.

In Indonesia, floods and landslides often occur during the rainy season from October to March of the following year, foreign media said.

In December last year, heavy rains caused landslides and floods in a mountainous village in North Sumatra province, causing 12 people to be washed away to a nearby lake, of which only one body was found, leaving 11 people still missing.
