Fox News viewers surged more than 40% after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump won the presidential election.

Citing ratings research firm Nielsen, Britain's Financial Times said conservative Fox News viewers have risen 40% since the presidential election on May 5, while liberal MSNBC and CNN have fallen 38% and 27%, respectively.

Fox News' average daily audience between the 6th and 22nd of this month was 2 million, far exceeding the average of 1.4 million just before the election.

In addition, 73% of cable news viewers watched Fox News during prime time in the evening for several weeks after the election, 16% watched CNN and 11% watched MSNBC.

The Financial Times said the outlook for the cable TV industry is dimming due to the strength of online streaming services, but Fox showed unrivaled competitiveness, sending its shares up nearly 60% this year.
