British Prime Minister "will not choose between the U.S. and Europe...You have to cooperate with both sides."

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer says it is in the national interest to cooperate with both the U.S. and Europe, and that even if U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is in power, he will not choose between the U.S. and Europe.

In his keynote address at a banquet hosted by the mayor of London on Tuesday local time, Mr Starmer said the idea of choosing between allies at such a dangerous and tumultuous time was clearly wrong.

In addition, he said he would never turn a blind eye to the relationship with the United States, which has been a cornerstone of security and prosperity for more than a century ahead of the inauguration of Trump's second administration, stressing that the surest way for Britain and the United States to mutually promote their national interests is to work together.

It also said a strong relationship with Europe was vital to growth and security, and that it would find practical and effective ways of cooperation to serve its national interests while continuing to push for a reset of relations, leaving behind years of divisions caused by Brexit and Britain's exit from the European Union.

Last month, Starmer, who met with Chinese President Xi Jinping for the first time in six years as Britain's prime minister, said he planned to continue talking to China as well, reaffirming his strong support and support for Ukraine.
