2024.12.18 PM 11:03
A woman in her 50s in the United States who has been suffering from renal failure has received a genetically modified pig kidney.

Towana Rooney, a 53-year-old woman, underwent a transplant last month at New York University's Langone Laboratory.

Medical staff continue to monitor Rooney's health, and say he is in good condition and his transplanted kidney is functioning normally.Medical staff cautiously expect Mr.

Looney to be able to return to Louisiana, where he is home, in about three months.

The pig kidney transplanted this time has 10 genes modified to reduce human rejection, and Rooney must continue to take medicine.

This is the third time a pig kidney has been transplanted to a conscious patient in the United States, and the previous two patients died about two months after the transplant, but had already suffered severe complications before the operation, which is different from the current case.

Medical staff expect human transplants of pig organs to become common within the next 10 years.
