Oxford, UK, 'Globalization of Korean Language Education' in partnership with universities around the world

A research team from prestigious Oxford University in the UK is working with universities around the world, including universities in Korea and Indonesia, to promote Korean language education.

A research team led by a Korean studies professor at Oxford University said it has decided to expand the Korean language education curriculum in partnership with various universities at home and abroad as the world's interest in Korean language grows.

This comes as the younger generation learning Korean while enjoying K-pop or K-dramas is surging around the world, including in the UK.

In the UK, the number of elementary and secondary schools teaching Korean as an after-school class is on the rise to 45 in 2022 and 68 in 2023 due to the high demand for students, even though Korean is not included in the foreign language course of the secondary curriculum evaluation test (GCSE).

Oxford University's language center also started Korean language education this semester.

A team of Korean studies professors said, "Hello, Korean language textbook based on the Korean Wave." We decided to write 'Korean!' and use it for globalization of Korean language education, and said that it will be translated and produced in French, German, Japanese, and Indonesian.

In the case of Indonesia, as the Korean language became popular due to the Korean Wave, Panchasil is preparing to establish a Korean language department.

The school will teach students with Oxford University's Korean language education curriculum and textbooks when the department is established.

In addition, some middle and high schools in Jakarta, Indonesia, will start Korean language education next year, and we plan to support the use of the Oxford University curriculum.
