In major European cities such as London in the UK and Paris in France, colorful lighting festivals are in full swing to celebrate Christmas and the end of the year.

Numerous citizens and tourists are visiting again this year, and in the midst of war and terrorism, the atmosphere is not the same as before.

Correspondent Jo Su-hyun of London reports.

Champs-Élysées in the center of Paris, France.

Against the backdrop of the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs-Elysees, which runs about 2km to Concord Square, shines with golden lights.

Rome, Italy, is also colored with colorful lights, and a death statue is held every night in London, England, where Christmas festivals are in full swing.

Regent Street is considered a Christmas night view attraction in London, and many people from all over the world as well as British people visit every year to see the angel lighting behind me.

The Christmas market is also bustling every day, and adults and children are excited, but on the other hand, I can sense some complicated atmosphere.

This is because the war is prolonged in Ukraine and the Middle East, and economic recovery remains a challenge for several countries.

[Rosa / Parisian, France] It's hard to enjoy Christmas with your family because of the war. We are all sad and very worried.

[John / Londoner: The economy always goes up and down, so the way you look at life remains the same. Like everyone else, I came out to enjoy myself today, and this could be called escape from reality, but I think this is life.

In Germany, there has been a wave of mourning for victims amid a sharp increase in vigilance following the Christmas market car attack on the 20th.

[Eric / Magdeburg Residents: We would like to express our feelings (for the victims) and show that these incidents affect us as well.]

European countries, which celebrated Christmas this year amid various social turmoil and whirlwinds, are spending Christmas holidays in their own way and waiting for a more hopeful New Year.
