Ukrainian special forces have reportedly captured a North Korean soldier sent to Russia alive.
According to Militarny, a Ukrainian military media outlet, on the 26th local time, the Ukrainian Special Forces (SOF) captured a North Korean soldier during an operation in Kursk, Russia.
The SOF released a photo of the North Korean soldier on Telegram.
The man in the picture appears to have been injured, but it has not been confirmed whether he has been treated or his current condition.
Local media explain that if the man is identified as a real North Korean soldier, he will be recorded as the first North Korean soldier captured in Ukraine.
North Korea has sent more than 11,000 soldiers to Russia, and they are said to have been deployed to Kursk, which has been seized by Ukraine in a surprise move, and have recently been put into the front line in earnest.
As a result, damage such as North Korean soldiers killed is also increasing.
Ukraine's military intelligence agency (DIU) has recently claimed that airlift units and marines, a hybrid of North Korean and Russian forces, have suffered fatal and irreparable losses in the attack on Ukraine.
The North Korean military is said to be wreaking havoc on Ukrainian drones because of the open terrain in Kursk, where Russia has been struggling to recapture for months.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an X on the 23rd that more than 3,000 North Korean soldiers were killed or injured in Kursk.
The General Intelligence Service (GUR), under Ukraine's Defense Ministry, said North Korean soldiers have little experience in modern warfare, especially drones, and pointed out that they use primitive tactics like those seen in World War II.
Ukrainian media say the North Korean military continues to prepare for infantry advancements, with little change to its existing tactics, despite large-scale thought.
