How was the situation on your way to work today?

Yes, the subway in Seoul this morning caused large and small congestion everywhere due to train delays.

The Seoul Transportation Corporation's labor union has begun a kind of industrial action, "rule operation," in a way that strictly follows the break and stop times with the "safe driving manual."

In particular, as the interval between train dispatch on subway lines 1, 3, and 4, there were announcements asking passengers for their understanding.

Some citizens said that the time to go to work was 20 minutes later than usual.

Let's listen to it for ourselves.

[Park Ji-hye / Songnae-dong, Dongducheon-si, Gyeonggi-do: I departed from Jihaeng Station (Line 1), but the train came a little late and I think it was about 20 minutes late.]

The Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) said that as of 8 a.m., 8 out of 288 metropolitan electric trains operating on metropolitan subway lines 1, 3, and 4, Suin Bundang Line, and Gyeongui Jungang Line were delayed for more than 20 minutes.

In particular, subway lines 1, 3, and 4 are operated by the Seoul Transportation Corporation with the railway union, which is fighting against the law.

Congestion seems to have increased as the Seoul Transportation Corporation's labor union joined the train in the face of delays due to the railroad union.

Concerns over subway chaos in the Seoul metropolitan area are growing as the union predicts a general strike on the 6th of next month.

What's the issue?

The Seoul Transportation Corporation union is demanding the withdrawal of restructuring and higher wages.

The labor union said at a press conference yesterday (19th) that the safety of workers and passengers was threatened, with the introduction of a single-person crew system being discussed due to excessive restructuring by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the corporation. The
wage increase rate criticized the failure to comply with government guidelines for the fourth year.

The union declared that it would go on a general strike on the 6th of next month if the negotiations finally broke down, increasing the level of pressure through the compliance struggle.

The third union, the Right Union, also announced that it will hold a strike ceremony in front of City Hall at 10 a.m. and hold a four-day vote on the strike from tomorrow (21st).

The second union is also in the process of striking.

Regarding the issue, the Seoul Transportation Corporation explained that restructuring is for jobs that are not related to essential work, such as canteen employees and barbers, and that it is consulting with the Seoul Metropolitan Government on the size of the increase in safety-related personnel.

Considering the poor financial situation, the wage increase will be discussed within 2.5%.
