This year, Incheon's birth rate has been confirmed to be the highest in the country.
The Incheon Metropolitan Government said the number of births in Incheon from January to September this year was 13,326, up 8.3% from the same period last year.
This is the highest number among the 17 cities and provinces in the country, far ahead of the next-ranked cities, 3.5% in Seoul and 3.2% in Daegu.
The national average birth rate was 0.7%.
Incheon's total fertility rate increased from 0.67 in the third quarter of last year to 0.8 in the third quarter of this year, the second-largest increase in the country after Sejong City.
The number of marriages in Incheon also totaled 9,661 between January and September, up 12.4% from last year.
The Incheon Metropolitan Government evaluated that the Incheon-type low birth rate measures along with the continuous influx of population contributed to the increase in the fertility rate.
The Incheon Metropolitan Government is currently pursuing policies such as the "100 million plus iDream" policy, which provides a total of 100 million won to all children born in Incheon by the age of 18, and the supply of 1,000 won housing per day for newlyweds.
