It has been found that there are 1,159 vacant houses in Jeju.
Jeju Island said it was confirmed as a result of a five-year survey conducted for the second time after 2019.
The 1,159 vacant houses identified this time are up 34% from 862 in the 2019 survey.Of the 1,159 units
, 10% were eligible for immediate residence, 73% were eligible for residence or utilization after repair, and 17% were required for demolition.
The ratio of vacant houses by region was 68% in Jeju City and 32% in Seogwipo City, and 66% of vacant houses were concentrated in rural areas.
The survey selected 3,500 units by analyzing the amount of water and sewage used and empty or old buildings, and evaluated the actual vacant houses and the status of the building through field surveys for 11 months.
The reason for the increase in vacant houses in Jeju is the decrease in the population of rural areas due to population decline, aging population, and the decrease in the number of people entering Jeju.
Based on this survey, Jeju Island has decided to establish a Jeju-type vacant house maintenance plan by requesting services from the Jeju Research Institute.
