Imsil-gun, Jeollabuk-do, has decided to provide disaster support to affected farms as the damage to rice extinction spreads in rural areas due to extreme weather conditions.

Shim Min, head of Imsil-gun, said, "The recent large rice extinction has damaged 53% of the total rice cultivation area in Imsil-gun," adding, "We will provide 2,000 won to 5,000 won in disaster support for a 40kg bag of damaged rice."

As of the end of September, the area affected by rice extinction in Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province is 7,187 hectares, and Imsil-gun is the first to decide to provide disaster support.

Rice extermination is a pest that consumes rice rod juice, and the damaged rice turns yellow and, in severe cases, dries completely, making harvest impossible.

Shim Min, the head of Imsil County, also said he plans to meet with Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Minister Song Mi-ryeong, who is visiting the rice destruction site, to officially propose the declaration of a special disaster zone and recognition of agricultural disasters.
