Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau survived two rounds of parliamentary confidence votes.

Reuters and AFP reported that Trudeau, who leads the ruling Liberal Party, succeeded in keeping the government in a confidence vote held in the House of Commons on January 1 at the request of the main opposition Conservative Party by 207 to 121.

The Conservatives have called for a vote of confidence in Trudeau, saying he is responsible for rising prices and rising crime, and is also opposed to raising the federal carbon tax.

However, Trudeau remained in power after passing the first and second confidence polls on Sept. 26 with support from other opposition parties, including the liberal New Democratic Party and the NDP.

Canada's general election will be held in October next year.
