In order to eradicate deepfake sex crimes, the government has come up with a comprehensive plan that focuses on expanding false investigations.

The Office for Government Policy Coordination announced today (6th) a plan to strengthen the response to deepfake sex crimes and will expand the scope of disguised investigations that were possible only for sex crimes against children and adolescents to adult victims.

In addition, in the case of private investigations that do not reveal that they are police officers or collect evidence by deceiving their identities, prior approval is required, but the relevant law will be revised to obtain post-approval in the future.

In addition, the government plans to block suspected videos first to protect victims quickly, then deliberate on whether they are illegal, and specify a deadline in the relevant regulations to delete them within 24 hours if a business operator is asked to delete them.

The phone number of the digital sex crime victim support agency will be unified to "1366" and a dedicated website will be created so that anyone, not only the victim, can report it 24 hours a day.

In addition, we plan to implement regulatory measures that require domestic and foreign platform operators such as Telegram and Naver to prevent distribution or implement corrective orders, and impose fines or fines if they violate them.

Earlier, an amendment to the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, which can be punished just by looking at deepfake sexual exploitation, passed the National Assembly and went into effect on the 16th of last month.

The government explained that since statistics were compiled in 2021, the number of victims has more than tripled and the proportion of teenage suspects has reached 73%.
