Vice President Harris on the podium at Howard University in Washington, D.C., a day after the presidential election.
Harris, who greeted her supporters with a bright smile, officially acknowledged her defeat, saying she had to accept the election results.
[CAMALA HARRIS/Vice President of the United States] We must accept the election results. The basic principle of American democracy is to accept the result when you lose an election. This principle distinguishes democracy from monarchy or tyranny.]
The remarks appear to be aimed at former President Trump, who accepted the presidential election results but objected to his defeat four years ago.
He also left room for another presidential bid, saying he would never give up the fight for the ideals of the United States.
[Camala Harris/Vice President of the United States] I will never give up the fight for a future where Americans can pursue their dreams and ambitions.]
American women have the freedom to make their own decisions about their bodies, not as the government tells them to do, and will never give up the fight for a future where Americans can pursue their dreams, ambitions and wishes.
Prior to his acceptance speech, Vice President Harris, who said he called former President Trump to congratulate him on his victory, also stressed that he would help with the peaceful transfer of power.
President Biden also promised a smooth transition of power in a call with former President Trump.
Unlike the polls, which were very close, voters reacted differently when the result of former President Trump's landslide victory came out.
[Marion Mullis / Harris supporter] I came to Washington, D.C. from Kansas to celebrate Harris' election, and it was a complete defeat. I was shocked and disappointed that so many people voted for Trump. I couldn't believe it.]
[Kimberly/ Trump supporter: Trump was shot in an assassination attempt, but he's still fighting for us. He truly loves America, he loves the people. Trump cares about us.]
[Barbara / Trump supporter] Someone who can control the country and have more influence, someone who loves the United States and believes in the United States as one nation under God.]
Once the results of the vote are finalized, President Trump's inauguration will be held on January 20 next year after state-specific voter votes and certification by the joint session of the House and Senate of the Federal Assembly.
Vice President Harris' acceptance speech ended the fiercest U.S. presidential race.
However, there remains a task to heal the wounds of the American people from the enmity and conflict that intensified during the presidential election.
