The Truth and Reconciliation Committee decided to find out the truth by judging the case of the late Sergeant Ahn Hak-soo and his family, a Vietnam War prisoner who had been kidnapped by North Korea for more than 40 years, as a serious human rights violation.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission pointed out that the family has been managed and monitored as a North Korean family for decades because the state did not investigate the details and take active repatriation measures after Sergeant Ahn's abduction.

He then recommended that the state apologize to Sergeant Ahn and his family and take steps to restore their damage and honor.

Sergeant Ahn was recognized as a victim of kidnapping only in 2009, but his family members have been flocking to the families of North Korean defectors.

In addition, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission decided to investigate the truth about the 1980 illegal detention case for alleged violations of the anti-communist law and the 1989 illegal detention case for alleged violations of the national security law.
