Choi Tae-won and So Young's 'Divorce of the Century' Supreme Court Heard Today

The Supreme Court will decide today (8th) whether SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and Art Center Director Noh So-young will directly examine the divorce lawsuit.

If the decision to dismiss the hearing is made, the second trial's ruling that Chairman Choi should pay KRW 1.38 trillion in cash in the property division will be confirmed.

In May, the Seoul High Court ruled in an appeal trial for the divorce of Chairman Chey Tae-won and Director Roh So-young that "Chairman Chey should distribute about 1.4 trillion won in assets to Director Roh."

Chairman Choi later appealed against the ruling,

[Choi Tae-won / Chairman of SK Group (last June): The judiciary's judgment should be respected. But I decided to appeal this time.]

The Supreme Court, which took over the case, has to decide by midnight today (8th) whether to hear the case in earnest.

The dismissal of non-continuity of the hearing is a system in which the Supreme Court dismisses the appeal without an original hearing,

The Supreme Court is required to decide whether to dismiss the appeal within four months from the date of receipt of the appeal record.

According to the data, about 80% of domestic cases that have been submitted to the Supreme Court over the past five years have been dismissed without proper hearing.

If the Supreme Court dismisses the appeal of the divorce suit between Chairman Chey Tae-won and Director Roh So-young as "discontinuance of the hearing",

The second trial's ruling that Chairman Choi should pay KRW 1.38 trillion in cash as a property split will be confirmed as it is.

This is the worst result for Chairman Choi, who can be threatened with management rights due to the disposal of stocks for property division.

However, analysts say that the two sides are fiercely competing over various issues, which is more likely to continue the hearing than other cases.

Attention is focusing on what the Supreme Court will conclude on the "divorce of the century" lawsuit, which costs more than 1 trillion won.
