Uijeongbu City, which missed the Gyeonggi Province Youth Basic Income Project this year due to financial problems, belatedly expressed its intention to participate and asked the province to draw up a budget.

The basic youth income is a project to pay 250,000 won a year to 24-year-old young people per quarter, and since 2019, Gyeonggi-do Province and 31 cities and counties have shared the project costs, and this year, 29 cities and counties excluding Seongnam and Uijeongbu have implemented it.

According to the Gyeonggi provincial government, Uijeongbu City sent an official letter on the 28th of last month and asked for 2.8 billion won in provincial expenses according to the share ratio, saying it would participate in this year's project.

Uijeongbu City estimated that 4 billion won will be needed for the project, including 2.8 billion won in provincial expenses and 1.2 billion won in municipal expenses, with 4,000 people eligible for support this year.

However, the last supplementary budget bill for Gyeonggi-do Province this year has already been submitted to the provincial council on the 25th of last month, so an increase in the cost of basic youth income projects should be made during the budget review process.
