The Ministry of Health and Welfare conducted an on-site inspection to remove Jeju Island from the "Seoul Medical Area" and establish a high-level general hospital there.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare said that Park Min-soo, the second vice minister, visited Jeju Halla Hospital and Jeju National University Hospital for two days from yesterday (7th) to hold a meeting.

Currently, there are 11 treatment areas in Korea, including Seoul, Gangwon, Gyeongbuk, and Jeonnam, but Jeju is tied to the Seoul treatment area because it does not meet the population.

For this reason, Jeju General Hospital has been eliminated from the designation of a higher general hospital every time because it has been pushed out of competition with hospitals in Seoul.

Vice Minister Park said Jeju Island will actively consider separating the area considering the characteristics of the island and the fact that 13 million tourists visit it annually.
