Prosecutors seek death penalty for medical students in their 20s for 'Gangnam Station social murder'
Prosecutors have sought the death penalty for a medical student who was put on trial for stabbing his girlfriend to death.

The prosecution asked the court to sentence a man in his 20s to death at a final hearing held at the Seoul Central District Court today (8th).

He emphasized that even if the death penalty is not executed, he should spend his life in penance as a death row.

The victim's father also emphasized the brutality of the crime and sentenced Choi to death, appealing for the murderers not to look down on the law and help the bereaved families get out of their misery.

Choi, who got the opportunity to make a final statement, repeatedly bowed his head, saying he sincerely apologized for the pain and sadness caused by him.

Choi was arrested on May 6 for stabbing his girlfriend several times to death on the roof of a building near Gangnam Station in Seoul.

Choi was found to have committed the crime out of spite when he was asked to separate from the victim's parents after it was revealed that he secretly registered his marriage with the victim in April.

Choi was attending a prestigious university medical school in Seoul after receiving a perfect score on the college entrance exam in the past, but was expelled from the university after the crime was revealed.
