Representative Lee Jae-myung and the prosecution issued a series of appeals, and the election law trial is now on to the Seoul High Court.

The case will be distributed within a month at the latest, and it is expected that one of the second, sixth and seventh criminal departments in charge of the election case will be in charge.

Earlier in the first trial, representative Lee and the prosecution fought for guilt and innocence in 27 hearings, and it took as long as two years and two months from prosecution to sentencing.

The increase in hearing was related to the fact that the mandatory regulation that the trial must be completed within six months for the first trial and three months for the second and third trials, respectively, in case of violation of the Public Official Election Act.

However, from the appeal trial, it is not small that it will develop in a different way from the first trial.

There are many opinions in the legal community that if the witness examination and evidence investigation were carried out faithfully in the first trial, the second trial will only adopt limited witnesses for both sides to apply.

Due to the nature of the appeals court, which focuses on reviewing whether the original ruling was appropriate, the hearing may be completed in at least six months.

The Supreme Court's Office of Court Administration also expressed its willingness to prevent delays in the trial, sending an official letter to courts at all levels in September asking them to meet the deadline for mandatory election trials.

If the first trial ruling, which handed down a suspended prison sentence, is not overturned at the higher court, Lee will lose his seat and be limited to running for office for 10 years.

This is why attention is focused on whether the case will be completed by the final trial before the next presidential election in 2027.
