The Mexican government has decided to reduce the size of Chinese imports of auto parts and other products and increase local production in preparation for the regional trade environment, which is expected to change rapidly around the inauguration of Trump.Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum
told a news conference that Mexico was not a detour for China.

The Mexican government is discussing ways to boost local production so Mexican companies can reduce imports of Chinese electric vehicle batteries and components under the U.S., Mexico and Canada agreements.

Local media said Mexico is struggling to maintain growth even after the inauguration of Trump's second administration at a time when it experiences an investment boom due to reflective profits from the restructuring of the U.S. supply chain.

While Trump sees Mexico as a bypass export route to China and mentions the imposition of tariffs, there is also a movement to reduce Chinese imports inside Mexico, where the deficit with China reached 144 trillion last year.
