The local currency closed at 1,396.5 won against the U.S. dollar, up 0.9 won from the previous session's close of Seoul exchange weekly, up 1.8 won from 1,394.7 won.
New York's financial markets were in a quiet mood, with New York stock markets and bond markets closing early for the day after Thanksgiving, the nation's biggest holiday.
Meanwhile, the yen strengthened for the first time in six weeks and led the foreign exchange market amid the recognition that the Bank of Japan could raise interest rates at its next financial policymaking meeting.
The yen-dollar exchange rate was 149.61 yen, the dollar-euro exchange rate was traded at 1.057 dollars, and the yuan-dollar exchange rate was 7.249 yuan.
"The day after Thanksgiving, U.S. trading was very small," foreign media said. "Many investors went on vacation ahead of the long weekend."
