The 8,200-ton new Aegis destroyer, the King Jeongjo destroyer, which connects the Sejong-class Aegis destroyer, was delivered to the Navy more than two years after its launch.

With its ability to intercept ballistic missiles in the sea, it has greatly increased its so-called 'sea triaxial system' capabilities, which range from detection of enemy attacks to retaliation.

Reporter Park Hee-jae reports.

The new Aegis destroyer King Jeongjo has been delivered to our Navy.

It has been more than two years since it first floated to the sea two years ago, and the test evaluation has been successfully completed in more than 550 areas.

The King Jeongjo ship, which was delivered this time, has improved its skills in most areas, including weight up to 8,200 tons, as well as size and speed, compared to the existing King Sejong ship.

Particularly noticeable is the ability to intercept 'ballistic missiles'.It is capable of operating SM-3 missiles capable of intercepting ballistic missiles flying at an altitude of 500 kilometers or higher in

and has radar capable of detecting up to a radius of 1,800 kilometers. It is evaluated that it has strengthened the so-called 'sea maneuverable three-axis system' that covers
detection, interception, missile defense, and retaliation.

In addition, it is equipped with surface-to-surface ballistic missiles and long-range fleet air guided missiles to further enhance attack and defense capabilities.

[Kim Jeong-sul / King Jeong-jo Captain: An anti-ballistic missile with enhanced anti-submarine capabilities] King Jeong-jo's ship is a key force in Korea's maritime-based three-axis system against North Korea's increasing nuclear and underwater threats.]

As a result, the Navy has four Aegis destroyers.

Two more King Jeongjo-class Aegis ships are under construction.

The Navy plans to go through electrification training and then put it into full force at sea as soon as possible.
