In addition, the Democratic Party of Korea urged a forced investigation, saying it confirmed the circumstances that the counterintelligence agency had prepared for martial law in advance, contrary to the claim that former counterintelligence commander Yeo-hyung was aware of the declaration of martial law through media reports.
Rep. Lee Ki-hun, a member of the National Assembly's Intelligence Committee, issued a press release claiming that he had received a tip that the counterintelligence agency had made a reference for the operation of the martial law command and joint investigation headquarters at least Nov. 30 and reported it to Yeo.
The data included a four-topic legal system, from declaring martial law to forming a command and a joint investigative body, and key issues, including whether the president has the power to veto it when the National Assembly demands the lifting of martial law, Lee said.
Opposition lawmakers from the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee held a separate press conference and demanded that military investigators quickly seize and search counterintelligence agents who planned unconstitutional and illegal emergency martial law.
