As Syrian rebels who ousted Assad's dictatorship speed up the establishment of a new government, the United States is wary of restoring the power of terrorist groups such as ISIS, which has taken advantage of the power vacuum.

Israel continues airstrikes targeting Syria's military facilities amid a series of criticisms that the country must dismantle its remaining chemical weapons.

After brutal dictator Assad was ousted, Syrian citizens have both expectations and anxiety about what the new government will look like.

The transitional government established by Islamic rebels has stressed that it will respect religious and cultural diversity.

He also announced that he would issue a new constitution and that the current constitution and parliamentary activities would be suspended for three months.

During his visit to the Middle East, U.S. Secretary of State Blinken urged Syria's new government to protect the rights of women and minorities and not focus on specific sects.

He stressed that the power vacuum should prevent terrorist groups from rising and that chemical weapons should be discarded.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons also asked the transitional government to cooperate, saying that the Assad regime should investigate the use of chemical weapons.

He also criticized Israel's airstrikes on chemical weapons facilities in Syria for causing pollution, damage to evidence and loss of chemicals.

But Israel advanced into Syrian territory, saying it was necessary for national security, and airstrikes continued.

U.N. Secretary-General Guterres has expressed concern that Israeli airstrikes violate Syria's sovereignty.

On the other hand, U.S. National Security Adviser Sullivan defended Israel's right to self-defense against security threats.
