Ukraine has imported US liquefied natural gas, LNG for the first time, Presidential Chief of Staff Andriy Yermark said.
Chief of staff Yermark reported the news on social media, calling it "a strategic move, not just an income."
"During the war, Russia won another victory on the energy front despite its attempts to destroy Ukraine's energy system, and together with its international partners, it is liberating the global energy system from Russian intimidation," Yermark wrote.
According to him, DTEK, Ukraine's largest private energy company, has taken over LNG produced by U.S. energy company Venture Global from its Greek LNG terminal.
The US LNG import contract is scheduled for 2026.
"This contract provides stability and confidence in the future of millions of Ukrainian people," Yermark's chief of staff added.
Initially, Ukraine imported LNG from neighboring Russia's state-owned gas company Gazprom, but it had to look for alternative sources after the war broke out.
