One in five unemployed people still failed to find work even though they had been looking for jobs for more than half a year.

According to the National Statistical Portal of the National Statistical Office, the number of unemployed as of August was 564,000, of which 113,000 people had a job search period of more than six months, accounting for 20%.

Long-term unemployment for more than six months began increasing in March this year, the highest level in 25 years since August 1999 when the currency crisis hit 20.1%.

In particular, it showed a steep increase, with double-digit growth compared to the same period last year until July.

On the other hand, the total number of unemployed people turned to a decline from July compared to the same period last year, marking the second month of negative growth, with the proportion of long-term unemployed rising sharply as the total number of unemployed people decreases.

The increase in long-term unemployment is interpreted as an aspect of the so-called "job mismatch," which is interpreted as an increase in the period of job search as people cannot find jobs that meet their expectations.
