Japan's House of Representatives Names Ishiba as New Prime Minister

2024.10.01 오후 03:01
Shigeru Ishiba, the new president of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party, was named prime minister today after winning a majority of votes in a vote to elect a prime minister at a plenary session of the House of Representatives with the support of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and the ruling New Komeito Party.

Then, if he passes a vote at the plenary session of the upper house, Ishiba will be confirmed as Japan's 102nd prime minister.

The LDP, along with the Komeito Party, holds a majority of seats in both the lower and upper chambers, so Ishiba is expected to be elected as the new prime minister without any unexpected changes.

Once the prime minister's election is completed, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi Yoshimasa, a spokesman for the Japanese government, will announce a list of Ishiba's cabinet ministers and the cabinet will officially be launched later.
