As the elderly population is nearing entry into a super-aged society, which exceeds 20% of the total population, various crimes targeting them are also on the rise.

[Fact-tracking] According to the report, nearly 108,000 crimes were committed against the elderly aged 65 or older last year.

Intelligent crimes such as telephone financial fraud were the most common at 32%, followed by violence, theft, and violent crimes.

The number of abuse of elderly people with poor physical and mental functions continues to increase, and the number of abuse cases recognized by senior protection agencies exceeded 7,000 for the first time last year.

Experts urged the establishment of a proper protection system, saying that elderly people living alone with diseases such as dementia or separated from their families are especially vulnerable to crime.

The YTN investigative report program [Fact Tracking], which will be broadcast on the night of the 9th, will address the seriousness of crimes against the elderly and seek solutions such as the establishment of a dedicated department and strengthening prevention education.
