This year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine went to American biologists who discovered microRNA.

On the 7th local time, the Swedish Nobel Committee announced Victor Ambrose, a professor at the Massachusetts Medical School, and Gary Lovecon, a professor at Harvard Medical School, as co-winners.

MicroRNA is a type of ribonucleic acid, a group of small RNA molecules that play a role in controlling biological gene expression.

Professor Ambrose first discovered microRNA in 1993, and Professor Lovecon discovered that microRNAs are involved in various diseases such as cancer and neurological diseases.

The Nobel Committee praised it, saying, "The groundbreaking discovery made by the two professors at a size of about 1mm has changed the research paradigm for gene expression."

Understanding the genetic principles expressed in various ways can unlock the secrets of various physiological processes in our body.

The medical community expects that microRNA expression research can be applied to disease diagnosis and treatment.

The winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine will receive 11 million Swedish krona and 1.34 billion won in Korean money.

Starting with this physiology award, the Nobel Committee will announce the winners of the physics prize on the 8th, the chemistry prize on the 9th, and the literature prize on the 10th.
