Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Minister Song Mi-ryeong recognized the damage from rice extinction as an agricultural disaster and said he will issue subsidies next month.

Minister Song made the remarks yesterday (7th) during the parliamentary audit of the National Assembly, saying that he has completed consultations with related ministries on whether to recognize the rice extinction disaster.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will purchase all rice affected by rice extinction, and farmers who have subscribed to crop accident insurance will quickly pay insurance money equivalent to the reduction in harvest.

Farmland that recently suffered from abnormal high temperatures was tentatively estimated at 34,000 hectares (hectare) across the country, and Jeollanam-do had the most occurrence at 20,000 hectares.

Rice extermination is a pest that eats juice from the stems of rice, and when rice extermination occurs, the rice does not grow well, and in severe cases, it dries up and dies.
