Democratic Party of Korea Submits Request for Permanent Special Prosecutor for 'Suspicious First Lady Kim Gun-hee'

In addition, the Democratic Party of Korea has proposed a request for a permanent special prosecutor's investigation into the alleged manipulation of the stock price of Sambu Construction Co., which is suspected of involvement of First Lady Kim Gun-hee, and external pressure from the customs investigation.

Kim Yong-min, senior vice president for policy, told reporters after submitting the request to the National Assembly that President Yoon Suk Yeol is trying to hold a permanent special prosecution by repeatedly vetoing the individual special prosecution law.

The Democratic Party also proposed a revision to the National Assembly's rules that would exclude the ruling party from the composition of the standing special prosecutor candidate recommendation committee for presidential-related cases.

The current rules require four out of seven independent counsel candidates to be recommended by the People's Power and the Democratic Party of Korea, respectively, but if the rules are revised, all four will be recommended by the opposition party.

The permanent special prosecution is shorter and smaller than the special prosecution based on the individual special prosecution law, but President Yoon cannot exercise his request for reconsideration, or veto, as he follows the already enacted law.
