Yesterday (7th) afternoon, it was confirmed that the accident in which a radiologist from the National Cancer Center was exposed to radiation was due to carelessness.

According to the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, at around 12:50 p.m. yesterday (7th), a linear accelerator was activated while an employee of the National Cancer Center was staying in a linear accelerator room, causing a radiation exposure accident.

The National Cancer Center said that the accident occurred when an outside company employee operated the accelerator without knowing that there was a radiologist inside while testing it after repairing the linear accelerator.

In addition, the exposed worker immediately ran out after hearing the sound of operation, and was exposed to radiation for several seconds, and it was confirmed that it was not a serious situation, with no unusual symptoms yet.

Along with the exposure dose assessment, the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission plans to thoroughly investigate and find out why the exposed person stayed in the linear accelerator room, why the accelerator was operated without internal confirmation, and why the time to report the exposure accident was delayed.
