As competition between Baemin and Coupang Eats, the No. 1 and No. 2 delivery platforms in Korea, intensifies, the conditions that platform companies demand from their stores are becoming more difficult.

In order to meet good promotional conditions that directly affect sales, business hours to prices must be matched to the platform, but self-employed people complain of pain, saying it is too harsh.

Reporter Oh Dong-gun heard the voice of the scene.

[Reporter]
Mr. A in his 30s, who has been running a delivery restaurant in the Seoul metropolitan area for three years.

I recently decided not to hire a part-time job and work alone.

This is because the service was suspended because it was difficult to meet the requirements of the delivery platform.

[Mr. A / Restaurant owner: Sales have decreased by at least 50% because he did not play the Wow and Baemin club. We have reduced labor costs, increased operating hours, and made up for the drop in sales through various measures.]
Mr. B, who ran a
chicken restaurant, eventually closed the store in June after suffering from the same problem.

[Mr. B / Former franchise owner: I couldn't get the order because it wasn't revealing, so I had no choice but to set the minimum amount again and expose it, but the order came in. But there was so much money that came out as much as it came in. [I'll just report the closure of the business]
In addition to the high fees of up to 9.8%,
stores are also angry about the terms of the contract.

It can be promoted more easily if Baemin and Coupang Eats meet the requirements, but
This is because two companies
are forcing them to match the price of food sold directly in stores beyond other platforms.

In addition, opposition from the restaurant industry is growing as business hours and minimum order amount are included in the conditions.

[Mr. A / Restaurant owner: We don't think of us as business partners or customers, but rather as subcontracts that use our hands and feet.]

Since July, the government has been looking for a solution, such as forming a win-win consultative body to enter into discussions, but the clamour of the site is gradually growing over time without any measures.
