Last month and September this year, when it was like midsummer due to the heat wave and heavy rain rising and falling 35 degrees Celsius, made a new history.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) analysis, it was the hottest and wettest September ever.

It's a new record that reveals the climate crisis.

Reporter Jung Hye-yoon's report.

The hot sun that is overshadowed by the word autumn,

Last month, when the heat wave rose up and down 35 degrees Celsius.

The heat wave warning continued until the middle and late of the year, creating an unusual scene of enjoying folk games with a drink with ice in a sleeveless shirt on Chuseok.

[Kim Soo-jin / Possible Dong, Uijeongbu: It's the best ever, I turned on the air conditioner until early September, it's the first time I've turned it on until around Chuseok until mid-September.]

[Lee Kang Hae / Dasan-dong, Namyangju: It's very hot. I'm 83 this year, and I think this year is the hottest day.

The Korea Meteorological Administration's official analysis showed that the weather in September this year was actually unprecedented.

The national average temperature is 24.7 degrees.
It was recorded as the hottest month in September ever, 4.2 degrees higher than the
normal year.

The number of heatwave days was 6 days and the number of tropical nights was 4.3 days, four to six days more than usual, so all ranked first in history.

For the first time ever, heat waves came in September in seven regions across the country, including Seoul and Seosan, and tropical nights appeared in four regions across the country, including Chuncheon and Yangpyeong.

In particular, the total number of tropical nights this year was 24.5 days, nearly four times the average (6.6 days), the highest since the Korea Meteorological Administration's statistical analysis.

[Woo Jin-gyu / YTN Disaster Advisory Committee, Meteorological Administration Information Officer: September this year was marked as an exceptionally high (temperature) year than September of other years due to the frequent occurrence of sunny weather due to Tibetan high pressure in the upper atmosphere, which is still holding strong, and the high-temperature water vapor flowing along the lower atmosphere in the south as it is placed on the edge of the North Pacific high pressure.]

The heavy rain that came after the heat wave was also so-called all-time.

The average precipitation across the country in September was 241 mm, more than half as much as the average precipitation.

In particular, the amount of rain fell between Sept. 20 and 21 was 529.4 mm in Changwon, 403.4 mm in Busan, and 381.2 mm in Geoje, surpassing the heavy rains during the summer rainy season.

Some regions, including Seosan, Changwon, and Busan, recorded the highest number of precipitation on September, with daily rain between 200 and 400mm.

Jindo and Changwon recorded more than 100mm of precipitation in an hour.

The Korea Meteorological Administration explained that the abnormal heat waves and heavy rains were caused by the effects of stagnant front lines and tropical low pressure, and sea surface temperatures around the Korean Peninsula reached the highest level in the past decade in September.

In addition, it is highly likely that summer disasters caused by climate change will continue until September in the future.
