Four executives and employees of Korean companies who bribed foreign officials are indicted

Employees of two mid-sized domestic companies who bribed foreign officials in exchange for overseas business orders have been put on trial.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office indicted without detention Lee, the managing director of civil engineering and supervision company A, with annual sales of 570 billion won, and Yang, the head of the department, on charges of violating the International Anti-Bribery Act.

They are accused of asking Minister B to select a highway construction supervisor at a restaurant in Incheon in 2019, expressing their intention to give US$200,000 and 235 million won in our money, and handing over a mobile phone worth 1.29 million won.

Separately, the prosecution indicted Kim, the founder of factory automation software company C, and vice president Kim without detention on charges of violating international anti-bribery laws.

In 2018, they are accused of promising to give $2.11 million in exchange for bidding and 2.3 billion won in Korean money in the process of exporting software to state-owned companies manufacturing displays in country D, and actually handing over 1.8 billion won.

Prosecutors added that cracking down on international bribery cases will raise Korea's national credibility and serve as an opportunity for domestic companies to abide by international standards.
