Novelist Han Kang became the first Korean writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.

It is the second time for Koreans to win a Nobel Prize since former President Kim Dae Jung's 2000 Peace Prize.

Sweden's Nobel Committee said Han Kang's work is "an intense poetic prose that faces historical trauma and reveals the fragility of human life."

Han Kang Becomes 121st Winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, 18th as a female writer and the first as an Asian female writer.

The Nobel Committee drew attention by marking the name and work of the artist Han Kang in Korean on its official website and social media accounts.

Foreign media also reported that it was the first Korean writer to win the award.
