The bereaved families of the fire at the Arisel plant in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, which killed 31 people, have launched an indefinite sit-in, calling for punishment for their parent company, Econec.

The Arisel Disaster Countermeasures Committee said more than 20 bereaved families set up a tent in front of the Eskonec headquarters in Yangbeol-dong, Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, yesterday (10th) and began an indefinite sit-in.

The task force argued that although Econek has a 96% stake in Arisel and is a so-called "body" closely linked, such as operating Arisel products as its own products, the investigative agency excluded it from the disaster.

He added that intensive reinforcement investigations are needed against Econec, which does not acknowledge its responsibility.
