Police officer who responded poorly to 'Incheon stabbings' confirmed dismissal

The Supreme Court confirmed the dismissal of a police officer who failed to respond properly to the "Incheon stabbings" in 2021.

On the 10th, the Supreme Court confirmed the lower court's ruling that the former lieutenant A lost the plaintiff in a lawsuit filed against the head of the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency asking him to "cancel the dismissal disposition."

A was dismissed in November 2021 after leaving the scene without stopping the crime when a resident upstairs swung a weapon at a neighbor downstairs due to noise between floors in a villa in Namdong-gu, Incheon.

Afterwards, A filed a lawsuit claiming that he did not leave the victims deliberately, but that he immediately responded incorrectly after the stabbing rampage.

However, the second trial court judged that the dismissal was justified as it greatly damaged the dignity of the police officer, saying that A and others had pistols and Tasers and were outnumbered and were able to sufficiently suppress the perpetrators.

Former police officer B, who was dispatched to the scene with A, also filed a lawsuit to cancel his dismissal, but his loss was confirmed by the Supreme Court in March.

The two were also indicted on charges of dereliction of duty and were sentenced to one year in prison and three years of probation at an appeals court in July.
