At least 21 people were killed when Israeli forces struck a northern Lebanese village, foreign media reported.

According to Reuters and others, Israeli military fighter jets bombed the town of Aitu in the northern Lebanese city of Zgharta on the afternoon of the 14th local time.

Local authorities say an apartment building that was used as a migrant rental home with a majority of Christians was targeted.

Lebanon's Red Cross says at least 21 people have been killed so far and it is searching for survivors from the rubble of the building.

Foreign media said it was the first time the town of Aitu, far from Hezbollah's base, had been attacked since Israeli forces entered the ground war in southern Lebanon last month.

Local media estimate that a senior Hezbollah commander may have been targeted, but the Israeli military has yet to come forward with a position related to the raid.

Earlier, the Israeli military said it had killed Muhammad Kamel Naim, commander of an anti-tank missile unit of Hezbollah's Radwan special forces in southern Lebanon's largest city of Navatier.
