People's Power said that broadcaster Kim Eo-jun received at least 2.4 billion won in appearance fees during the six years he hosted TBS radio's "Kim Eo-jun's News Factory."
According to the data analyzed by Rep. Choi Soo-jin, a member of the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, TBS paid 2.45 billion won in appearance fees to Kim, who hosted "Kim Eo-jun's News Factory" from September 26, 2016 to December 30, 2022.
Choi explained that this was calculated in consideration of the days when Kim broadcasted on a weekday basis in TBS's "Regulations on Payment of Transportation Broadcasting Production Expenses" revised in April 2014 and the "Production Cost Payment Regulations" in April 2020.
Specifically, TBS paid Kim 1.1 million won each for two hours of radio programming from September 26, 2016 to April 1, 2020, and 2 million won from April 2, 2020 to December 30, 2022, and accordingly, Kim received at least 2.451.1 billion won from TBS, Choi said.
On April 2, 2020, TBS enacted a regulation that allows production costs to be paid beyond the upper limit of payment according to the decision of the CEO if the recognition and reputation are high, and considering this, lawmaker Choi Soo-jin argues that the actual cost of the performance Kim received is higher.
"From 2016 to this year, there were a total of 30 legal sanctions imposed by the Korea Communications Standards Commission on TBS, 23 of which were imposed on Kim Eo-jun's News Factory," Choi said. "Kim Eo-jun, who poured out all kinds of biased and political misconceptions, was stuffed with taxes from Seoul citizens."
