Director of Korean Literature Translation "Blacklist, Don't Stay Again"

2024.10.19 AM 01:31
Jeon Soo-yong, director of the Korea Literature Translation Institute, who was instructed to exclude some writers, including writers Han Kang, from various projects during the Park Geun Hye government, said, "I don't think there should be a 'blacklist'."

In a parliamentary audit of the National Assembly's Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee yesterday (18th), Jeon answered yes to a question by Rep. Lim Oh-kyung of the Democratic Party of Korea, whether the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism instructed the Translation Institute to exclude certain writers, including Han, from overseas exchange support projects between 2014 and 2016.

Jeon said, "There was no international problem because the translator did not implement exclusion at the time," adding that it is not beautiful for the Korean government to refuse invitations from foreign institutions.
