In the wake of the death of Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar, the leaders of the United States, Britain, France and Germany agreed that Israeli hostages should be returned to their families and the war in Gaza should be ended.U.S. President

Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz met in Berlin on the afternoon of the 18th local time and discussed the situation, the German Chancellor's office said.

The leaders of the four countries discussed the return of hostages held by Hamas and how to support civilians in Gaza and agreed that a diplomatic solution was needed to ensure the safe return of civilians from Lebanon's border with Israel.

They also repeatedly condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine and discussed ways to use Russia's frozen assets to further support Ukraine, as agreed at the Group of Seven summit.

After a bilateral meeting with Scholz, President Biden said on his way out that there was "no agreement at this time" on lifting restrictions on Ukraine's use of long-range weapons, Reuters said.

Ukraine is constantly demanding that it be allowed to attack mainland Russia with Western-backed weapons, but Western-backed countries such as the United States have not responded.
