The National Research Institute analyzed that if the proportion of online consumption increases, the number of employed people decreases, mainly in the accommodation, restaurant, wholesale and retail businesses.
Kim Ji-yeon, director of the Economic Outlook Office at the Korea Development Institute, announced this analysis of KDI issues.
As a result of the analysis, if the proportion of online consumption increased by 1 percentage point, the average number of employed people per year decreased by 34,000 compared to the same period last year.
The number of employed people in the accommodation and restaurant business decreased by 23,000, and the wholesale and retail business decreased by 19,000.It was analyzed that the expansion of online shopping
leads to a decrease in purchasing activities and eating out consumption offline, affecting related workers.
On the other hand, in the transportation and warehouse industries, the number of jobs increased by 8,000 due to the creation of jobs in the parcel and logistics sectors.
