Tokyo High Court in Japan "Disapproval of same-sex marriage is unconstitutional."

The Tokyo High Court in Japan ruled that civil law regulations that do not recognize same-sex marriage are unconstitutional.

This is the second time in Japan that an appeals court has ruled unconstitutional regarding same-sex marriage, following the Sapporo High Court in March.

The Tokyo High Court ruled the civil law and other regulations unconstitutional in an appeals court that claimed 1 million yen per person for damages, saying seven people, including same-sex couples, violated the Constitution.

The court said the law that does not recognize same-sex marriage violates the Constitution, which stipulates equality before the law and essential equality of individual dignity and gender.

However, the claim for damages was dismissed as in the first trial.
