"The state compensates 130 million won." Victims of the "Ahn In-deuk Case" won against the state [Anchor Report]

2024.10.30 PM 02:44
You may remember the arson killer Ahn In-deuk, who set fire to an apartment in Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do, five years ago and wielded a weapon against evacuating residents, causing more than 20 casualties.

Ahn In-deuk was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court, and some victims and bereaved families of the case also filed a compensation suit against the state, saying that the police responded complacently and led to the disaster.
The
court ruled in their favor today.

The Seoul Central District Court ruled that the state should pay them 132 million won in a damage suit filed by five victims and their bereaved families.

Earlier in 2021, four other victims' bereaved families also filed a lawsuit against the state for damages, which was ruled by the first trial in November last year that the state should pay them about 400 million won.

Above all, in order for victims and their bereaved families to receive a little comfort, the state and law enforcement authorities need to be more awakened to prevent such complacent responses from happening again.
